I remember moving to our new (old) house on Cadwalader Drive, right across from Cadwalader Park, in 2017. At that time, the park looked more than a little worse for the wear. Walking paths were barely distinguishable from overgrown lawns, and casually discarded paper, bottles and plastic were strewn this way and that.

Then wonderful neighbors began rolling their wheelbarrows, filled with rakes and shovels, through the streets of Hiltonia. They gathered at the park to picked up trash and to weed, working alongside folks from Cadwalader Heights, along with Trenton Schools teachers and students, and even volunteers from Trenton’s North Ward and from Pennington Borough even farther north.

After several such clean-ups, the City of Trenton and County of Mercer sent their parks and recreation crews – along with their huge and hugely effective trucks and other motorized vehicles – to the 110-acre park for several days in a row. Ay, caramba! What a difference that effort made.

Improvements have continued ever since, with the park always looking better than the year before up to this day. And more improvements are on the way. As I’m writing this, I’m telling myself for the millionth time how blessed we are to have this gorgeous park – and so many people who care about it.
